Ike

The good news is my family is all perfectly safe.  Ike hit Houston pretty hard, but no damage was done to either my sister's house or my parent's house.  My parent's weekend house on Clear Lake may be a different story.  They are on their way to check it out as I type and are pretty much expecting it to be a goner along with the sailboat.  I hope not, it was such an adorable little house.  We call it the caboose because it is a little red cottage and the first time my nephews saw it they thought it looked like the Little Red Caboose.

At my sister's house in Conroe, they have somewhere between 20-30 large trees down on their 3 acres.  Natalie says the place looks completely different.  Such a shame because they had some beautiful trees!  But God truly had his hands over their house.  They just finished a major remodel/addition and none of the trees fell on the house.  Some came really, really close.  The biggest tree that fell extended to within inches of  their front porch.

Even though Austin did not get any bad weather whatsoever, Robert and I still got to feel like we were part of the action yesterday as we went on a mad hunt for two generators (one for my parents and one for my sister's family).  We called around to all the Lowe's and Home Depots in Austin and finally got a tip that the one on Howard Lane had 20 that were just delivered.  We called them and the guy told us that they were going really quickly and if we couldn't get there in 5 minutes then not to even bother.  Luckily we were already in that area.  I dropped Robert off at the door and told him not to be shy about grabbing one of someones cart and running to the checkout!  We literally got the last two 5500 watt generators that they had.  Whew.  We felt like we were in the Amazing Race and we just barely stayed in the game!  We met my parents in Giddings last night to make the hand off.  As we were moving the generators from our car to theirs, another set of cars pulled off the road next to us and started moving window unit air conditioners from one car to the other.  Apparently this was the Austin-Houston supply route connection point.
