Well, by the time we got to the doctor yesterday Adeline's rash which had previously just been on her torso (front and back), had oozed it's way up further up her neck and also down her arms and legs. The doctor says that it is one of two things:

a) a virus
b) an allergic reaction to the antibiotic (penicillin base) she was on on for her ear infection

So, no penicillin, amoxicillin, or any other type of "cillin" for her again until she's 3 years old. At that point we'll have her tested for the allergy to see if she really has it or not. On the other hand, if it is a virus, it will just run it's course.

Dr. C. suggested we give her Benedryl to see if that helps clear it up (which would mean that it was caused by an allergic reaction). We are aware of all the controversy about Benedryl & other cold medicines for kids under 6, but we talked it over with the doctor and feel comfortable giving it to her. Anyway, the rash *seems* to be clearing up a little bit with the Benedryl, but not enough to rule out a virus. So we're back to being "sick baby social outcasts". None of our baby friends want to see us when we're sick. :(
